PASS Summit 2012 - Gone to the mountain and returned wiser

I began my conference schedule by attending Allen White's pre-con "Automating SQL Server with PowerShell". Allen starts by telling everyone in attendance “We all can learn something from each other.  We all know something that someone else doesn't.”
I thought this was a great intro and inspiration to the attendees to participate in the PASS Community.

Later in the day while answering a question, Allen tells us he is not a PowerShell expert.  Which kind of surprises me.  He says he’s just figured out how to use PowerShell with SQL Server. I think he is being a bit too humble.  Afterwards, I talk to Allen about a script I’m working on and he points me in a direction that hopefully will help me finish it. All in all, it was excellent day of training on using PowerShell with SQL Server.

As the main conference began, I tweeted about how tight the seating was in some of the rooms on the first day of the main conference.

After the Summit, I read an excellent post about se…

PASS Summit 2012 - Red Gate SQL in the City

I was fortunate enough to get my company's approval to travel for the entire week.

My week began with Red Gate SQL in the City on Monday at the Bell Harbor Conference Center on the Seattle waterfront. SQL in the City is a FREE community event solely sponsored by Red Gate that deftly walks the line between vendor showcase and community event.  Upon arrival, I immediately got some great news regarding product enhancements that will help resolve issues at work. It included a great lineup of speakers and attendees like Brent Ozar, Jeremiah Peschka, Allen White, Gail Shaw, Steve Jones, Grant Fritchey and Buck Woody.

I met fellow PowerShell fan, Laerte Junior from Brazil in person for the first time at this event.  Laerte ended up with the best collection of photos and shared them via Twitter.  He could have been the official photographer for the PASS Summit.

A great lunch was served and the event finished up with a Drinks Celebration at the end. This event just further confirmed the awe…

I'm attending PASS Summit 2012!

I'm very fortunate to be attending the Professional Association of SQL Server 2012 Summit conference in a few days.  This will be my second time attending.
I consider this to be the BEST conference for SQL Server because of its complete coverage of SQL Server, the great range of speakers that PASS finds for this event and the networking opportunities.
Let me say that again, the best part of the conference is meeting people in person that I talk to on Twitter or whose blogs I read, or see at SQL Saturday.

I'm looking forward to a very full week of training and networking.

I will be attending Red Gate's SQL in the City on Monday.

Tuesday, I will be attending Allen White's pre-con "Automating and Managing SQL Server with PowerShell".

The main conference runs Wednesday through Friday.
Given my current assignments, my focus will be on attending sessions that cover Automation, Upgrades, Security, and AlwaysOn.

Have fun, be safe.
